My advice would be to relax and not take everything so seriously, even if other people do. It's not the Mormon Freakin' Tabernacle Choir, for god's sake.

Based on your post, I have no idea where you think problems are going to arise. You didn't take on more responsibility than you wanted. You helped smooth the lines of communication. Your involvement was greeted enthusiastically by both the group and an influential individual.

I don't know what "skills" you would need to "deal" with such a "problem."
